2022 Convention Model Contest – Brady Rhodenizer/Marc Hemphill

This year’s Convention showed that we a bit out of practice in administering the contests! Fortunately for us, we had about half the entries normally expected. Thanks as well to Victoria [Tori] Eisenhauer for helping us out!

The quality of the entries was superb and a great inspiration for anyone who saw them. A PowerPoint presentation of the winners is on the MFMR website. If anyone wants a hi-res image file of their entry, let us know.

Next year we’ll try to improve the processing of the entries to avoid mistakes such as putting entries in the wrong class.

Thanks to all entrants who showed great patience with us and thanks to the Convention Committee for arranging such great prizes !

So why not enter next year? In the model contest, there is a Regular Class and a Craftsman Class. You are promoted to Craftsman if you have taken 1st place and there are 3 or more modellers in that category. [ In some categories, this is a problem as we may not get the requisite 3 entries year after year. In some cases entrants choose to compete in Craftsman Class as their skill level is high. We allow that. ]

Not to forget the Photo contest – such great work!.

The rules for both contests are on the MFMR website. Rules can change with a motion at a general meeting. Any and all comments concerning the shows will be carefully considered and promptly addressed.

How contests are run was one of the main reasons the MFMR was formed. Compared to other areas in North America, we have a small, widely distributed population and did not have the depth of membership to have designated judges. Now, all our contests are judged by the membership. Peer judging in recent years has even been extended to the photo contest.
